Your emotional abuse recovery starts now!

My passion is to assist intimate partner abuse victims with their emotional abuse recovery. This commitment began during a practicum at a domestic abuse shelter. Although I was not being physically abused, I saw the similarities between how we were treated in our relationships. This changed my life personally and inspired me to specialize in intimate partner abuse in graduate school.

Emotional abuse damages a person’s identity and makes it harder to leave. The long term emotional and physical health consequences are as damaging as physical abuse.

I combined what I learned from victims with research into what underlies intimate partner abuse and all other forms of violence in our society. I incorporated this into my work with survivors by developing a curriculum of materials.

I wrote Coercive Relationships: Find the Answers You Seek to offer guidance in emotional abuse recovery to a larger audience of survivors.

What People are Saying

“Parker provides a wealth of information about the components of coercive control. Encouraging self-compassion, she guides readers to recognize the dynamics of abuse, examine its hold on them and move along the path toward healing. It’s a must-read for survivors as well as those who work with them.” Joanna V. Hunter, author of But He’ll Change

“What I really love is that although the book covers a heavy and serious topic, the author provides the content piece by piece so it’s easy to read. When you’re in a coercive relationship it’s often hard to concentrate long enough to read a book. You’re in survival mode. It seems that’s why the author wrote this in such an accessible manner. I’m a mental health therapist and this book is a great one for me to recommend to clients and one that is a guide for myself.” Amazon Review

Wow. This was an absolutely stellar book. Its power is in its vulnerability, its inclusivity, its honest, tender approach. Jennifer Parker has a beautiful ability to hold the reader as if in physical, one-on-one communication with them. Parker goes one step further by offering a wealth of knowledge and further resources for readers to utilize should the need arise. My favorite part of this book, and for me ended up being the most transformative, were the moments for reflection and safety check-ins. Amazon Review
